As you might have noticed, the first post of our new site went over really well with the Digg.com crowd. Well apparently my host isn’t exactly web 2.0 savvy. After noticing the site went down I quickly emailed my host to see if I could upgrade my account or do anything to get the site back up and running. I even explained to them that the site was getting massive amounts of traffic from being featured on Digg.com’s home page. Remember how I said they weren’t exactly web 2.0 savvy? Yeah here’s what they sent me:

You can use Cpanel > IP Deny Manager in case you need to block unwanted http access to your files.

Should you have any questions or require any assistance, we are always at your service.

Well see, now that would work… of course I’d be effectively killing off all benefit from being featured on Digg. I quickly explained to them that I didn’t want to kill off my traffic from Digg and within minutes I get this email:

Hello,

The account hilariousnames.com has its public_html dir disabled as the domain was the target of an intensive ddos which was crippling the server and the other domains hosted on the ip. We would be monitoring the server and enabling access once the attack subsides.

So there you have it folks, Digg= a DDOS attack.

As you can tell, the site is back up and running smoothly. After explaining to Sunny that in fact this was NOT some sort of attack, but rather my site succeeding in drawing a large amount of traffic, they seemed to figure out the problem fairly quickly. Hi HostingZoom, allow me to introduce you to Digg.com!

Update: Just got another email from the good old abuse department:

Hello,

Unfortunately we can’t activate it if this will continue.
The server was heavily overloaded by the traffic that was pointed to your website.
You can upgrade to and only there we will be able to activate the account

Kindly regards,

So um Oleg… what exactly am I looking at then if you’re not going to activate the site? Needless to say I’m not going to ask questions and I’ll be looking for new hosting for this site tomorrow.
